ALCATEL SIGNS $20M TUNISIAN CONTRACT

Alcatel Alsthom SA has signed a $20m turnkey contract with Tunisie Telecom to supply the Tunisian national telecommunications operator with GSM mobile communication equipment for developing a mobile service concentrating on the country’s urban, industrial and tourist areas. GSM equipment supplied includes mobile switching, base transceiver stations, microwave transmission links and base station controllers. The first phase of the network will serve around 35,000 subscribers and should be operational by the first quarter of 1998.
