The Alcatel SEL AG Stuttgart-based unit of Alcatel NV, says that it expects full year profits to be on a par with 1991 earnings: although sales would rise this year, the increase would in part be due to a higher exports, which usually make lower contributions to profits; sales this year – which leaped in the first half, see page seven – will also include a higher contribution from subcontractor turnover from turnkey telecommunications projects in eastern Germany, which the company will ultimately have to pass on to the subcontractors.
