The Dutch-registered telecommunications company Alcatel NV, formed in January 1987 from the merger of CGE Alcatel and ITT Corp’s telecommunications interests, yesterday reported an end of year net profit for 1988 up 21.6% to $494m: the company’s turnover, however, fell by 1% to $1,300m due to the divesture of its consumer electronics interests, but the restructuring has helped the company’s profitability as a supplier of telecommunications systems and equipment; Compagnie Generale d’Electricite currently controls 61.5% of the company, while ITT has 37% and Credit Lyonnais holds 1.5%.
