Alcatel Alstom SA is to lay an undersea fiber optic cable link between South America, Africa and Europe, including 5,300 miles of cable and SDH synchronous digital hierarchy technology, in a contract worth $208m. Pirelli Cables and Systems SpA will supply a further 2,200 miles of cable.
