Alcatel NV made a last-ditch effort late last week to avert what had been regarded as almost inevitable – the choice of AT&T Co as the foreign partner for Italtel SpA: the offer includes majority Italian ownership of the joint venture with Italtel, help in marketing a set miniumum of Italian products in 110 countries, and an equity shareholding of 10% up in Alcatel for STET.
