The Australian Telecommunications Ministry has decided to standardise on Alcatel NV’s Groupe Spaciale Mobile digital cellular communications technology, and the French-controlled company expects orders for cellular nets for Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra in the near future, making Australia is the first non-European country to adopt the standard for digital radio phones.
