The win represents Alcatel’s most substantial contract in China to date for the deployment of its Alcatel 9600 LSY Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) digital microwave solution. The contract was won through Alcatel Shanghai Bell, Alcatel’s flagship Chinese company.
Under the terms of the contact, Alcatel will deploy its microwave transmission solution in 21 cities and towns across Guangdong Province (including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan and Zhanjiang). Once the digital microwave solution has been deployed, it will enable the Bureau to deliver a number of digital TV services such as web browsing and private broadcasting. Deployment is expected to be completed by the end of 2005.

Alcatel has previously been awarded an initial contract for its Alcatel 9600 microwave solution in October 2004 by the Radio, Film and Television Bureau of Shandong Province – the first solution of its kind in China’s Broadcast and Television industry.
