ALCATEL AND HAYES IN ADSL PACT

By CBR Staff Writer

Alcatel, part of the Alcatel Alstrom SA group is to team up with Hayes Microprocessor Products Inc to manufacture and market products and equipment incorporating asymmetric digital subscriber line technology. ADSL takes advantage of existing telephone copper-wiring infrastructures which serve the majority of homes and businesses. The companies have not disclosed the conditions of the agreement, but have said it will enable customers to interact with the internet, data networks and similar services at speeds some 100 times faster than new 56Kbps modems on the market.
