Alcatel Network Systems said it and GTE Worldwide Telecommunications Services have won a contract valued at $259m from the US Army Information Command. The contract, for the Outside Cable Rehabilitation II project, has a one year base period beginning February 15 and four one-year options. Alcatel will provide its 1603/12 and 1648 Synchronous Optical Network multiplexers, DML-3X50 synchronous multiplexer, digital loop carrier T-1 voice channel banks, and DS1 fiber optic equipment. GTE is the prime contractor for the overall project. Network Construction Services Inc, of Greensboro, North Carolina, will provide construction services as a member of the team, the firms said.
