Pierre Suard, chairman of Alcatel Alsthom SA, said he expected his company’s turnover to fall again in 1994 and net profit would probably fall too: Suard also warned that Alcatel’s French subsidiaries were suffering in China, a market that was otherwise the most promising export market for the group – China retaliated against French companies last year after France sold fighter aircraft to Taiwan – if this continued, Alcatel’s French units would lose several thousand million francs of turnover a year, he said.
