Alcatel-Lucent has been selected by Completel, a France-based alternative optical fiber network provider, to upgrade its backbone communications network.

Completel will deploy Alcatel-Lucent’s 100Gbps optical technology on its new and existing routes to enhance network capacity and performance.

In addition, Completel will use Alcatel-Lucent’s 100G optical offering to meet the growth of bandwidth-intensive apps such as videoconferencing, image transfers, high-definition videos and collaborative tools.

Completel chief executive officer Thierry Podolak said with the popularity of videoconferencing, enterprise customers expect that the offerings offered can bring greater quality, speed and reliability.

"Alcatel-Lucent’s 100G offering will help us keep our leading position in France’s very high-speed market and meet our customers’ growing demands," Podolak said.

Alcatel-Lucent France chairman and CEO Pascal Homsy said their Converged Backbone Transformation (CBT) offering is a key pillar of their High Leverage Network architecture.

"It will allow Completel to benefit from optimal capacity and the lowest cost per bit while providing a platform to launch and support new innovative services," Homsy said.

Further, Alcatel-Lucent will also provide Completel with technical supervision and training services.
