Albania Telecom, new Tirana-based state-owned telephone company is to invite tenders for a $34m project to kick off the country’s $240m 10-year programme to modernise the country’s phone system with the installation of a 35,000 line inter-city fibre-optic trunk and establish fibre and microwave links to Italy; the first $34m is being put up by the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development and the Italian and Swiss governments.
