Alabama signs contract with eGovernment firm NIC

Confirming its commitment to digital government, the state of Alabama has signed a contract with eGovernment firm NIC to manage its official government website.

By CBR Staff Writer

Alabama.gov’s suite of more than 50 online services includes a variety of business tax filings, trucking permits, personalized vehicle tag reservations, hunting and fishing licenses, and a suite of professional license renewals.

During the last three years, NIC says it has worked with more than 25 state agencies to develop over 100 interactive government services for the portal. The Alabama portal is proving increasing popular given that it hosted nearly three million unique visitors in 2005 compared with 1.5 million visits in 2004.

Alabama’s chief information officer, Jim Burns, said, Alabama is committed to using technology to deliver tangible results to citizens and businesses. We look forward to continuing the expansion of Alabama.gov’s online services through our successful relationship with NIC.
