Aktect SA, the Spanish software company, has developed a new computer-aided design program to run under Unix. The program includes three dimensional, multiple viewing windows within one project and high level of detail controlled by a zoom mechanism. Also offered is a visual control of the object from varying perceptives, varying construction materials and light conditions; topography of the ground where the building is to stand can also be included. Training courses are run in conjunction with academic and professional bodies as part of the package, maintenance contracts are also available: Arktec runs on the 68030-based HP9000 Series 300 stations with a minimum of 4Mb memory although 8Mb is recommended. It will operate over a coaxial Ethernet and needs a hard disk with a minimum of 80Mb, with 130Mb recommended, a high resolution 16 or 19 screen, the Hewlett SRX graphic accelerator for solid and texture modelling, a mouse, digitiser pad, matrix printer, inkjet or A4 or A0 laser printer.
