AK Systems, newly formed in Chatsworth, California, has bought the assets of magnetic tape drive manufacturer Ibex Computer Corp, which has been operating under Chapter XI bankruptcy protection since March 1986: the assets were bought from First Interstate Bank, which foreclosed on the Ibex assets last month, but AK intends to make the Ibex Mainstreamer nine-track tape drive for mainframes, minis and micros the core of its product line; chairman and chief executive of AK is Harold Kurth, who founded and built up Pertec Computer Corp in the mid-1960s, leaving it in 1972.
