North London-based paging and message handling specialists Air Call Communications Ltd, 40%-owned by BellSouth Corp, is expanding into the Danish market. The company – which already operates out of the UK, Ireland, Spain and Switzerland hasformed a joint venture with ISS, Denmark’s largest employer, to develop telephone based services for the Danish market. The Copenhagen based venture, ISS Air Call, starts with an existing company originally set up by ISS. Employing 20 people, its business has been built around a specialised database of tradesmen throughout the country which can be accessed by telephone. As well as maintaining the core business, ISS and Air Call say they also plan to take and process orders on behalf of advertisers, provide telephone answering services for companies and introduce alphanumeric radio paging on a national basis to Denmark. Air Call chairman Warren Tayler expects ISS Air Call to have a turnover of UKP1.5m by 1990 which he hopes will provide a base for further paging services in Scandinavia. By 1992, he says, Air Call will have in place a European network offering a range of telephone-based communications and information services.

BellSouth Corp is expanding its paging interests Down Under, paying Voicecall Ltd about $20m for the Voicecall Communications Pty Ltd unit, which controls the Voicecall and Skypage brands of pager, and also offers telephone answering services: the acquisition will be handled and the businesses run by BellSouth’s local Link Communications Pty Ltd.
