Top of the fourth quarter agenda for the Palo Alto-based expert system development tools house Aion Corp, is Aion Development Systems 5.0, an enhanced version of its current line of ADS software development tools. New features, which – according to the company – will improve effectiveness, reduce application development costs, and provide developers with greater flexibilty, include dynamic agendas, enabling applications in the process of executing to modify their own goals, and truth maintenance, designed to provide better support for complex what if kinds of decision analysis. Also planned for the fourth quarter is the release of the IBM LU 6.2 APPC micro-to-mainframe processing link option, enabling ADS PC-DOS applications to retrieve data and interact with ADS knowledge bases on IBM mainframes, including the MVS/CICS transaction processing environment. Aion also plans a dictionary access option support for DB2CAT, SourceDBD and Copylibs will be included in the first release – and a change auditing facility. On schedule for July availability is the High Performance Option, which lets many ADS expert system applications run six to 10 times faster than under the current interpretive execution systems. ADS 5.0 will be available free of charge to existing ADS customers: prices for the options will be announced 60 days before release.
