Google’s Daydream VR headset to launch across five countries

All the features you need to know ahead of Daydream VR headset release.

Google’s virtual reality headset, Daydream VR will be available from November 11th. Ahead of this, its Daydream app is now available on Play store, with various experiences included.

The Daydream headset will be sold on Google store, as well as various other retailers across five countries, such as USA, Canada, Germany, Australia and UK. Its UK price has been released as £69.

Its Daydream VR headset, which was announced last month along with its Pixel smartphone, is to be made compatible with various smartphones which meet requirements such as an embedded Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip, 4GB RAM, Android 7.0 Nougat and AMOLED screen.

Daydream VR headsetsAt the moment, the product is only able to be used with Google’s Pixel smartphone. In a blog post, Google mentioned that a “personal cinema” can be created with the two devices, enabling users to “explore new worlds and get in the game like never before.”

In an interview with Evening Standard, Clay Bavor, Google’s VP of virtual reality said: “The wearer can teleport from anywhere to pretty much everywhere.”

Some of the features mentioned, which are also available on the Play store, include YouTube VR, which allows viewers to watch the entire library of YouTube videos on a virtual big screen and experience immersive VR videos from top creators.

daydream-partners-1463790498-8fb6-column-width-inlineA selection of other applications that have been confirmed to support Google’s immersive experience are such as, Hulu VR, Invasion, Star Chart VR, The Wall Street Journal VR, The Guardian VR, The New York Times VR and many more. All of which will be accessible on the Daydream app.

From a selection of games also available on the app is a featured collaboration with Harry Potter author JK Rowling’s ‘Fantastic beasts and where to find them’. Gamers will be able to defeat strange creatures in VR experience.

Olivier Demangel, founder of virtual reality creators IVR Nation told design magazine, Dezeen: “VR is going to change entertainment as well as advertising, design, architecture, medicine and social networks.”
