Agilent, Mu Dynamics to provide new automation test application

To evaluate the impact of exceptions on network performance

By CBR Staff Writer

Agilent Technologies and Mu Dynamics have announced a collaboration to integrate Agilent’s N2X multiservices test application with Mu’s Test Suite family.

The companies claim that the integration, already in use at network operators and their vendor suppliers, enhances the design and automation of tests to evaluate the impact of unexpected device/systems scenarios on network performance.

Agilent said that its N2X validates the functional, performance and scalability characteristics of broadband networks and network equipment, such as layer 2-3 forwarding devices that offer video, VoIP, data and VPN services.

The company further said that Mu’s Test Suite focuses on identifying software weaknesses and handling capabilities of network applications and devices. The Test Suite offers QA, developer and support teams a series of malformed or mutated packets to the application or device under test (DUT), and determines which mutation negatively affects the DUT’s supported services and causes anomalous behaviour in control-plane protocols.

The integration of Mu’s Test Suite with Agilent’s N2X is expected to allow the customers evaluate the impact of exceptions on network performance and service availability under load. The combination also reportedly enables network equipment manufacturers (NEMs) and service providers (SPs) reduce the impact of protocol errors, day-zero attacks and hidden vulnerabilities in network equipment.
