It appears that the hardening of spot memory chip prices in the Far East in September and October was a false dawn. According to the Nippon Keizai Shimbun, prices for 16M-bit memory chips for volume users for November shipment fell in Japan and are now at a fifth of their level a year ago. Unit prices for large-lot shipments in November were between $8.36 and $9.25, down about 4% on the price for October shipment.
