MedAvant and Aetna have maintained a direct connection for real-time transaction processing but this agreement adds direct claim submission capabilities for MedAvant’s provider customers who are enrolled with Aetna beginning October 1, 2007.

MedAvant offers claims submission and real-time transaction processing to its base of 150,000 providers, including eligibility checking, claims status, electronic remittance advice, referrals, and pre-certifications, through its online portal called myMedAvant.

MedAvant provides real-time connectivity and revenue cycle management services through its real-time platform, PhoenixSM. MedAvant’s PhoenixSM system is a transaction processing platform that uses a service-oriented architecture with multiple processing engines. It accommodates real-time transactions, as well as the more traditional batch transactions, for providers and payers who are not ready for real-time processing of their claims data. MedAvant processes approximately one million transactions a day on the Phoenix system.

John Lettko, president and CEO of MedAvant, said: We’re proud to say that we’ve been a partner with Aetna for more than 12 years. We are very excited to now offer the core set of HIPAA transactions as a result of our expanded direct connectivity to Aetna. We know that offering direct connectivity to the nation’s largest payers enhances the services we deliver to our customers.
