Under terms of the agreement, Aerocast will integrate Inktomi(R) Traffic Server(R) network cache platform and Traffic Server(R) Media-IXT(TM) software across last-mile broadband networks to enable affordable, high performance delivery of secure streaming media to residential users.

Aerocast is creating a service focused on the secure delivery of entertainment-quality streaming video to home viewers with broadband Internet connections. Secure delivery of streaming media over IP to personal computers is achieved via Aerocast DRMa, a digital rights management system in co-development with Motorola, Inc. With a solution encompassing security and distribution directly from the broadband operator edge, Aerocast will be the first provider of true, on-demand Internet delivery of full-screen streaming media to the mass market.

As Aerocast completes the build out of its global broadband edge service, it’s critical that we work with industry leaders such as Inktomi to help us rapidly deploy scalable, robust technology solutions, said Dario Santana, president of Aerocast. Inktomi’s software platform intelligently cooperates with the Aerocast DRM solution for secure content delivery and offers the flexibility we need to deploy differentiated, value-added streaming capabilities across our network.

Aerocast is pioneering a new service for the secure, low-cost distribution of entertainment-quality video to consumers, and the integration of Inktomi software across Aerocast’s infrastructure enables high-performance last-mile delivery of broadband content, said Ted Hally, senior vice president and general manager, Content Networking Solutions Group at Inktomi. Inktomi’s leading Internet infrastructure technology addresses complex networking challenges through highly scalable and flexible software solutions that build intelligence across networks.

Aerocast is beginning user trials with select broadband operators located around the country.
