These new technologies take a frustatingly long time to come to market, but Aer Energy Resources Inc really does seem to be on its way now with its long- time- between- charges rechargeable Zinc-air batteries that we told you about way back in 1992 (CI Nos 1,891, 2,056): the Smyrna, Georgia company was saying then that the batteries delivered three times the power of Nickel Cadmium batteries, and it now reports that it has signed a non-binding, non-exclusive letter of intent with a major portable computer manufacturer – IBM Corp? Apple Computer Inc? Compaq Computer Corp? – to co-operate on the development of the battery systems; earlier this year, Aer Energy won a similar letter of intent with Zenith Data Systems on the batteries.
