Ekaterinburg company AEA is marketing an MCI Communications gateway for the city of Ekaterinburg (formally Svedlovsk) based on the country’s network of telegraph lines: the AEA Information System is a package of services including electronic advertisements, electronic catalogue shopping and electronic mail; according to Valery Chufaroff, AEA’s director, the network has about 200 subscribers in 50 cities of the CIS; he believes the potential for developing the network is good as over 180,000 domestic organisations use telegraph connections.
