Shares in Advanced Micro Devices Inc rose $2.625 to close at $43.875 yesterday as the first quarter results came in better than expected (CI No 3,135) – they showed a small profit where a small loss had been forecast. Chairman Jerry Sanders said all the businesses improved over the fourth quarter, when Advanced Micro posted a loss of $21.2m. Recovering strength in all sectors of our business produced the sales growth necessary for AMD to return to modest profitability even before volume shipments of AMD-K6 MMX processors, Sanders said.
