Advanced Micro Devices Inc plans to build a submicron semiconductor manufacturing facility in Austin, Texas at a cost of more than $700m: it will employ up to 1,000 people when fully equipped, will produce the company’s next generation of iAPX-86-compatible and RISC microprocessors, and highly integrated logic chips for applications such as networking and multimedia; the plant is expected to be completed in 1994 and will have at least 60,000 square feet of clean room in a 450,000-square-foot building.
