ADR BUYS DATABASE FOR PERSONALS TO GAIN SQL TECHNOLOGY

By CBR Staff Writer

Applied Data Research, the Princeton, New Jersey IBM system software specialist now owned by Ameritech of Chicago, has bought the XDB relational database for the Personal Computer developed by Software Systems Technology – but wants the product primarily for the Structured Query Language it contains. Parts of the database will be incorporated in a planned SQL version of the Datacom/DB and Dataquery mainframe database products, and it will also be used to create tools for the development of Personal Computer applications. XDB, offered by Software Systems Technology at $750, includes a report writer, a forms manager, a menu generator, and applications data import and export facilities. There is also a Unix version but ADR says it has no plans to pursure that market.
