Adobe has released its Creative Suite version 5.5 six months ahead of schedule. It has also announced desktop subscriptions for its products in Creative Suite and a new monthly subscription model for customers who do not want to buy the software outright.
As per the new model, Adobe Photoshop will cost $35 a month, while the complete software suites will cost $129 a month. At present, Adobe Photoshop CS5 is available between a price range of $700 and $1,000 in the US.
The company said the subscription model will help users to have the latest version of the software.
"It will allow firms to predict budget spends better, and it will be easier to allow for peaks and troughs in firms’ yearly media output," the company said.
The company’s release of its Creative Suite 5.5 is ahead f the normal release cycle by six months. Adobe said it did so because of the large number of mobile devices being launched.
Adobe business development manager for design Rupert Knowles said, "Earlier in the year at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, there were 100 media tablets announced."
One of the key updates of the new suite integrates Adobe Photoshop, running on a desktop computer, with software running on tablets.
The company has also released a new software developer kit, Photoshop Touch SDK, for app developers for tablets.
The five Creative Suite 5.5 packages are: Design Premium, Design Standard, Master Collection, Production Premium, and Web Premium.
