Adobe Systems Inc has also announced plans to further integrate Adobe Acrobat electronic document software with Lotus Notes, enabling Notes users to distribute documents authored in any application, while retaining the appearance of each document. This is possible through the company’s Portable Document Format. By supporting Notes/FX (Field Exchange), the next generation of Acrobat makes it easier for Lotus Notes users to search, view, modify and print documents distributed in Portable Document Format. A document from any application can be distributed as a Portable Document Format file, meaning it retains the precise visual characteristics of the original document and can be printed on any printer. All of the text in a Portable Document Format file is included in the Notes full text index, so users can search for any text within documents. Information that describes a Portable Document Format file, such as title, author and subject, is stored as fields in the Notes database, so that users can create views of Portable Document Format documents sorted by title, author, and so on, across the database. And users can annotate the fully-formatted Portable Document Format documents, to facilitate review in collaborative processes.
