Adobe Systems Inc said it has integrated its PDF document viewing software with Xerox Corp’s new ContentGuard Internet Security product to safeguard electronic documents from unauthorized duplication. Under the deal, the financial terms of which were not disclosed, the joint product will be offered as a free upgrade to existing ContentGuard customers from autumn. ContentGuard, released only on Monday, allows users sending PDF files generated by Adobe’s Acrobat software, over the internet, to protect them from unauthorized modification or redistribution.

Adobe and Xerox said they will jointly support an open standard for designing content management safeguards for the publishing industry. The Xerox deal was one of a slew that Adobe announced at the flagship computer publishing industry Seybold Conference in San Francisco on Tuesday. The San Jose-based company announced an upgrade to its Photoshop image editing software and new products enabling electronic book publishers to distribute and sell published content over the internet. It also unveiled shipment of a new generation of professional publishing system.
