Adobe introduces 3D printing update for Photoshop CC

The CC update allows users to create and print 3D models from their desktop.

By Kate Heslop

Adobe has released a new Creative Cloud update that allows Photoshop CC users to create and print 3D models from their desktop.

The new features allow users to manipulate 3D models and make them fit for printing. You can build 3D designs from scratch or use an existing model, refining, previewing and printing it in 3D.

Photoshop’s tools include automated mesh repair and add support structures to keep objects stable during printing.

Photoshop CC has built-in support for MakerBot hardware for local printing, or users can choose to send files to other online printing services such as Shapeways if they don’t own a 3D printer.

The CC update boasts 20 features across Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, including Perspective Warp that allows you to change an object’s viewpoint, and a smart objects linking tool that makes it easier for users to work on several files at once. Adobe has also announced updates to Muse that will include a new library panel and a full screen slideshow feature, which are due to arrive later in the year.
