Torrance, California-based Andrew Corp has a new IBM mainframe printer adaptor that enables the HP LaserJet IIISi departmental printer to be used in host and ASCII environments: the Si/Coax converts the HP LaserJet IIISi to a mainframe-compatible printer and supports simultaneous connections to personal computers, local area networks, or ASCII hosts with its two asynchronous ports; 3270 and async ports are switched dynamically and printouts are sent to the printer in the order received; the Newport plugs into a Modular input output interface on the LaserJet IIISi, and the adaptor provides mainframe-compatibility through 3287 printer emulation; the Newport Si/Coax costs $2,000 and is available now.
