Adaptec Inc, Milpitas, California has introduced the AMM-1570 family of SCSI-2 host adaptors for the multimedia market, which combine SCSI-2 and 16-bit advanced audio into a single add-in board for AT bus computers. It combines SCSI-2 input-output and audio that expands support by acting as the link to up to seven SCSI-2 devices. The host adaptor enables transfer rates of up to 10Mbytes per second. It includes an on-board BIOS, for adding high-capacity SCSI drives with boot capability, and can run as a secondary controller. Using a signal processor chip, it features technology that enhances performance of XA-Audio-compatible CD-ROM drives. A version with floppy drive support, the AMM-1572, is also available. Adaptec EZ-SCSI 3.0 for MS-DOS and Windows configures SCSI peripherals attached to the board in a matter of minutes, the company claims. The AMM-1570 family is designed for the OEM market and also comes in kit form. The kit includes the AMM-1570 SCSI Audio Host Adaptor with on-board Wave Table Synthesis and signal processor, Microsoft Corp Windows Sound System 2.0, Adaptec EZ-SCSI software. The AMM-1570 family will ship in volume in April. The kit is $400.
