Adaptec Inc and STMicroelectronics have entered an agreement to co-develop and market future SCSI offerings. Milpitas, California-based Adaptec, which makes host bus adapters, and STM, which makes integrated circuits for disk drives, will synchronize shipping dates for their products. The companies claim SCSI product adoption has suffered in the past due to complementary products being released at different times, and that the new partnership will buck that trend. No money will change hands under the deal. The agreement comes five months after STM bought AdaptecÆs Peripheral Technology Solutions division for $73m cash. The first stage of the new relationship will see Adaptec licensed to sell STÆs 43C97 Ultra2 SCSI IC to system customers.
