The South San Francisco maker of business intelligence software has released a set of reports based on standard open source BIRT and a pre-built data warehouse designed specifically for joint Actuate and IBM Rational customers.

IBM Rational Portfolio Manager is a tool that helps companies optimally align their IT projects with business priorities by providing insights into system and application development investment funding decisions.

The BIRT-based reports now included as part of Rational Portfolio Manager will let companies closely track and report on governance processes as part of the application development lifecycle. For example, development management will now be able create reports that detail development bottlenecks and identify code hotspots to improve development and planning.

BIRT, a web-based reporting software application, is already listed as an Eclipse Foundation open source project. IBM is a contributing member of the project.

Actuate is also providing special pricing for BIRT-based reporting packages for IBM Rational Portfolio Manager customers.
