San Mateo, California-based Actuate Software Crop has acquired web database access outfit NetScheme Solutions Inc, in a move that Actuate believes will boost its position in the reporting tools market. Terms of the agreement have not been disclosed. A privately held company, Actuate was established at the end of 1993 and recently launched its ReportCast internet multicast software tools (CI No 3,208). Marlboro, Massachusetts-based NetScheme’s web-based ad hoc reporting component will be integrated with Actuate’s software to extend its capabilities. The companies, who both develop server-based reporting products that use the internet as their primary forms of distribution, want to offer users the ability to create web-based reports through Java wizards, taking away the need for programming. An Actuate spokesman said the nature of the deal will basically see Actuate acquiring NetScheme’s technology.
