According to the contract ACS will upgrade NJ Transit’s existing fare collection systems by improving the electronics and end-user customer operations of its 543 ticket vending machines. In addition to the upgrade, ACS will deliver 157 new vending machines that will be delivered throughout 2007 and 2008.
The upgraded ticket vending machines will be equipped with new 15-inch touch screens, to increase ease of operation by ticket purchasers. The machines will also be able to issue tickets for New York and Pennsylvania transportation operators and will be compatible with all smart-card technologies.
