By establishing a long-term single point of entry call center the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) aims to ensure that individuals with disabilities, the elderly, and their families have the opportunity to make informed choices on how community and institutional settings can meet their long-term care needs.

This support will be available to people entering the system for the first time and those already in waiver programs, nursing facilities, or institutional settings.

Under the contract amendment, Affiliated Computer Services (ACS) will expand the implementation of the State’s new personal care services waiver program. This program was designed to provide home and community-based services to poor elderly and disabled residents.

Through a centralized call center, ACS assists applicants with the eligibility determination process to include in-home assessments that allow for appropriate provision of services. The program expansion was necessary due to the unprecedented volume of applicants for the program that was initiated in January 2004.

ACS has continually provided the extra effort required to ensure the success of our projects, said Ben Beardon, Medicaid director, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. Our experience with ACS is that they are client-focused, innovative, and committed to operational excellence.
