According to Affiliated Computer Services (ACS), the contract runs through November 2007, during which time the company will extend its contactless ticketing technology across Sistema de Transporte Colectivo’s (STC) network, equipping 2,000 platform access gates with contactless card readers and setting up manual and automatic ticket sale points.

The company added that it would also equip each metro station with a supervision system and data concentrator, as well as an optical fiber intelligent communication network to link equipment.

STC’s decision to make contactless ticketing standard across its system came after a pilot program, during which ACS deployed contactless e-ticketing on disparate magnetic equipment, therefore validating the selected technologies and their co-existence with magnetic stripe ticketing. ACS claims to be the first and only operator to use this dual technology on a single system.
