ACQUISITIVE OPEN TEXT CORP TO BUY ALTRIS CORP?

By CBR Staff Writer

Internet company Open Text Corp, which has acquired eight companies over the last two years, looks like it might be close to taking on another. The Dow Jones newswire reported that stock rose heavily on the rumors at the end of last week. One, unconfirmed, rumor suggested that Altris Software Inc, the San Diego-based document management firm, might be the target. Altris changed its name from Alpharal Inc on October 1996. Meanwhile, another serial acquirer, Geac Computer Inc, was also thought to be preparing to announce a major acquisition that will rival its $191.25m purchase of Dun & Bradstreet Software Inc in late 1996, according to another unconfirmed rumor in Canada’s The Globe and Mail. Geac reports its third quarter results this week, which are expected to be strong.
