Control, automation and image processing systems manufacturer Harland Simon Plc, Milton Keynes, which earlier this year acquired Crosfield Press Controls and Crosfield Ebway from De La Rue for UKP6.5m (CI No 1,459), has turned in pre-tax profits of UKP2.5m for the half to September 30, up 45.5% on the same period last year, on sales that rose 31% to UKP29m. Harland Simon took on Crosfield Press Controls, it said, as part of its strategy to focus on new markets such as specialist colour printing, has managed to shake off the loss-making Ebway – an agreement with an undisclosed company was reached in September involving consideration of $400,000 as against net assets of $150,000 no-one was available by press-time to comment on this agreement. Crosfield Press Controls is reported to have been profitable during Harland’s period of ownership and chairman David Mahony says work on integrating it into the group is proceeding satisfactorily and further benefits are seen during the coming year. Among Harland Simon’s other recent acquisitions is John Brown Automation Ltd, for UKP325,000 in cash.
