Acorn Computer Group Plc, Cambridge says it will launch a new operational division called Online Media today, and that it will develop a range of products and services to exploit the emerging interactive multimedia market: Online Media will initially pursue the design and sale of television set-top boxes presumably using the ARM RISC – and it is likely that these would be sold to major service carriers and their preferred system contractors, Acorn; The set top box design, or components they contain, will also be licensed and over time, Online Media will develop other products relevant to the broader market, Acorn said, going on to suggest that this might be authoring software for providing services on set top devices, services to support the creation of new applications and provision of an interactive service to support education in the home and school.
