Acer Inc, the Taiwanese PC maker, has issued a profits warning and will release revised forecasts for 1998 next week. The rise in the Taiwan new dollar against the US dollar is one of the main factors which have pegged back profits. In September, Acer pulled out of a deal with Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme to buy SNI’s PC production facility in Augsburg, Germany because of the uncertainties posed by the Asian economic crisis. Acer plans to sell 10 million PCs worldwide next year.
