ACER SEMICON EXPECTS LOSSES IN SHIFT TO LOGIC CHIPS

By CBR Staff Writer

Acer Semiconductor Manufacturing Inc, which in February announced the purchase of Texas Instrument Inc’s 33% stake in TI-Acer Inc, expects to lose approximately $137m this year, in part because of its shift toward logic chip manufacturing, reports Dow Jones. Acer Inc has made no secret of its wish to pull out of the commodity memory market and late last month struck a deal to buy logic integrated circuit technology from IBM to focus on the system-on-a-chip market (CI No 3,441).
