Taiwan’s Acer Corp seems to generate a lot more reaction in Japan than it does in the US and Europe, and the fact that the company is promising IBM PS/2 Model 80 and Model 50 clones for next spring has won the company considerable attention: Acer’s plan is to follow up the straight American version with models that can process two languages, such as American and Japanese, or American and Chinese; it will be the first to ship clones from what the Japanese call the Newly-Industrialised Countries of South-East Asia.
