The company, which is vying with Lenovo of China to be the world’s third-largest PC maker behind Hewlett-Packard and Dell, earned $90m for the third quarter. Revenue grew slightly more than 28% to $3.74bn from $2.91bn a year ago.

Acer said it saw strong notebook sales in both emerging and mature markets during the quarter.

Acer recently bought US PC maker Gateway for $710m. Gateway is currently in the process of acquiring France-based Packard Bell. Lenovo had also sought to buy Packard Bell.
