Acer Inc has been demonstrating its new AcerPad 100 Personal Digital Assistant at Hannover – but at A5 size, some 8.5 by 5.5, it is rather big. It says it is ideal for the business user who needs facsimile facilities, an electronic mail connection, but doesn’t want to give up MS-DOS compatibility. It weighs 1 lb 12 oz and has an infra-red port and two PCMCIA slots. It enables the user to exchange data with a desktop computer via modem, serial cable or infra-red communication. It has 2Mb memory and can be expanded with SIMM modules. It can be used for digitising input to a desktop computer with appropriate software. An external keyboard can be plugged in so the user can work with MS-DOS application. It comes with two programs Smartform and Organiser for times and dates with timetable, address book and dairy, and integrated clock. The size could be a problem if you don’t have massive pockets but the AcerPad 100 will be out in November. No word on which iAPX-86 CPU is used, or the price.
