Taipei-based Acer Inc now reckons its net profit for 1993 will reach a record $37.2m – it sounds rather better in the local currency, because it is $1,000m New Taiwan dollars – but is still 25% better than the company had been projecting; sales for the first 10 months of this year came to $569m, up 56%; output of Acer’s mother boards for the fourth quarter is expected to double from the year earlier figure but Acer attributes the profit growth to 60% growth of monitor production by Acer Peripherials Inc, in which Acer has a 48% stake; the company also has 50% of the TI-Acer Inc joint venture with Texas Instruments Inc to make dynamic memory chips in the Hsinchu industrial park of northern Taiwan.
