The Acer brand overtook Compaq as the market number one PC brand name in Italy in Q4 2000, according to the latest preliminary Q4 2000 Top Vendor report released by IDC. In Asia Pacific (excluding Japan) Acer branded notebooks took number two position, with a growth of 52.6%. Both Acer branded PC and notebooks exceeded far above the global industry average, in terms of shipment.

IDC and Dataquest both report that in Q4 2000, Acer became the number one selling PC in Italy; overtaking the title from Compaq who had held a tenacious grip on the coveted spot for the past three years. The achievement is largely accredited to the success of notebook sales in Italy.

IDC further reports that the Acer branded notebooks ranked second in Asia Pacific, Q4 2000, with shipments of 85,000 units representing 14% of the market share, and just behind IBM. Toshiba, Compaq and Samsung took the three and five positions respectively.

According to J.T. Wang, president and CEO of Acer Brand Operations, We are greatly encouraged by these figures.
