Taiwanese personal computer manufacturer Acer Corp is clearly anxious to get a foothold in Europe before the Single European Market comes into being and has given more details of its plans to start manufacturing on the Continent by early 1991. According to sales manager Marc Pauly, the site will most likely be in Holland – possibly near the German border – because of its central location in relation to the rest of Europe, and good transport links. The whole operation will start gradually with increased assembly at the Eindhoven plant, with a manufacturing capability of 10,000 units a month targeted for the first year. The European market is an important one for Acer – this year it is expecting to do around $300m worth of business. Mr Lyn, general manager of the Eindhoven office, is looking for a site 25,000 square metres in size.
